LET THERE BE LIGHT!

If you have been to the practice, you have heard me talk about the benefits of LED light therapy, and hopefully, have had the opportunity to use our Celluma.  We love Celluma because they hold 10 FDA clearances for therapeutic benefits to the body.  LED stands for light-emitting diodes, and this therapy is a

powerful stand-alone treatment for your skin.

Light therapy emits specific wavelengths to tissues to obtain therapeutic benefits.  This is a proven science and plenty of research has been done on the subject.  The biological effects decrease inflammation (for healing), increase fibroblast activity (cells responsible for collagen and elastin fiber production), and increases local blood circulation. The light penetration allows your cells to perform at 3 times their normal level, which is wonderful for cellular repair, something aging skin needs! Light therapy also helps stimulate serotonin production, the happy chemical produced in your brain (and elsewhere) that helps with mood and bone density – additional

benefits for both pre- and post-menopausal women!

It’s all about the nanometers (nm).

Blue light penetrates up to 464 nm’s which stays more on the surface and is great for targeting the

bacteria that cause acne.

Red light penetrates up to 640 nm’s which targets the dermal layer of the skin where fibroblasts reside – stimulating collagen and elastin production – our 2 favorite words. The photons emitted by the LED light enables the mitochondria of the cells to perform at 3 times their normal function, allowing for cellular repair, rejuvenation, and increased cellular function. This light is great for full-face wrinkles.

Infrared light penetrates up to 880 nm’s – this deeper depth allows the light to travel through the skin and down to muscle tissues to promote deep wound healing, targeting inflammatory cells (like neutrophils and macrophages). Correcting this cellular behavior decreases inflammation that causes aches and pains.

Just one 30-minute treatment allows your cells to work at this higher level for 24 to 48 hours.  So obviously, more treatments are better.  We have a “Celluma bar” set up at the practice which allows you to check-in, wash your face, take a 30-minute light therapy nap, apply sunscreen, and be on your way. But we recognize that it’s not easy for everyone to consistently do this 2-3 times a week, which is why we would like to become Celluma resellers.

Full disclosure – they aren’t inexpensive. Sure, you can purchase inexpensive models, but we stand behind the Celluma brand because we know it works.  I have the PRO (the one in the office) under my bed and use it twice a week, religiously.

Ya’ll have heard me talk about PREVENTION, PREVENTION, PREVENTION, this is a wonderful prevention tool.
