Dear Friends and clients of Semaglutide,
With Ozempic’s (Semaglutide’s) popularity gaining fever pitch a couple of years ago due to its weight loss capability, the company that manufactures it, Novo Nordisk, could not keep up with supply/demand. When this happens, the drug is placed on the “shortage list”, the patent is placed on hold, and compounding pharmacies are allowed to make “generic” copies of the brand name drug, usually for less money. Once that drug is no longer considered “in shortage”, the compounding pharmacies must discontinue the production of their generic drug. Which is where we find ourselves today.
As of today, the last day for compounding production of semaglutide is April 22nd, 2025 with drug use by date of June 22nd, 2025. It is possible that these dates will be pushed back but we are advising our clients to help you prepare. We should be able to get plenty of drug in the interim and can help advise you on ways to negotiate the rest of your weight loss journey. But please know that there is no need to taper off this medication. Discontinuing this drug overnight is of no harm to you. As we have taught you, the power is in you, the medication is a booster.
Rest assured, there is another version of Semaglutide in the works, formulated by our trusted compounding pharmacy that we have partnered with the last 3+ years. It will have similar mechanisms of action of regulating blood sugar, decreasing appetite, slowing gastric emptying, and promoting weight loss. It is reported to be just as effective with 3rd party independent lab testing and to be at roughly the same price point as Semaglutide and not under FDA or Big Pharma restriction. More information on this soon!
In the meantime, be sure to make your next appointment so we can give you current information and help navigate these waters with you.
All the best,
The SI Team
